Niah cave gecko (Crytodactylus cavernicolus)
The extremely rare cave gecko spends its entire-cycle in the dark zone of caves. This is the only species of true cave fauna that is currently protected by law.
It lives on swift guano, cave cockcroaches and small flying insects, and has been known to eat dead newly-hatched swiftlets.
This species can be found in Niah and Mulu caves, but it is not confirmed if it can be found in other caves in Sarawak. The population of this species is likely to have declined greatly due to decline in swiftlet populations and resultant decline in guano deposits.
