(Kuching: 24-11-2012) The Forest Department Sarawak staff, Mitsubishi Corporation delegates and UNIMAS students came together to take a “green” step forwards in the tree planting activity at Gunung Apeng Forest Reserve, Serian on 24 November 2012.
In her welcome speech, Puan Madeline George Pau representing Director of Forests Sarawak said that the involvement of tree planting activities by Mitsubishi Corporation had started since 1995. Up to date, a total of 123,400 seedlings which covered 308.50 ha. had been planted with indigenous species such as Engkabang Jantong, Kapur Bukit and fruit trees. The Department was thankful and supported the effort made by the Mitsubishi Corporation to rehabilitate the area in Gunung Apeng Forest Reserve.
A total of 600 Engkabang jantong seedlings covered an area of 1.5 ha were planted during the activity. Among those present were Mr. Hirota Yasuhita, Sr. President cum General Manager of Mitsubishi Corporation, Professor Dr. Hamsawi Sani from UNIMAS, Mr. Paul ak Munan, Ketua Kampung of Kpg Tong Nibong and staff of Forest Department.
