Alik Duju Nondestructive Strength Evaluation of Full Size Structural Timber
An acceptable method of estimating timber strength has to be established to develop confidence in using as construction material. In this study, four methods of measuring modulus of elasticity viz., Efr, Edwe, Eapp and Etru were compared and used to predict the bending strength of structural timber. Four timber species namely, Sempilor, Nyatoh, Alan batu and Resak hitam were used in this study. The coefficient of correlation between Efr, Edwe, Eapp and Etru and MOR were obtained. It was found that the four moduli of elasticity could be used as a parameter to predict the bending strength of 4" by 4" structural size timber. Efr was found to be more reliable, easy and convenient to use. It was found that the penetration depth of the striker pin produced by pilodyn wood tester could be used to predict the basic density of timber.
