IT IS THE FOREST POLICY OF THE GOVERNMENT OF SARAWAK TO:
1. Reserve sufficient forest land for the benefit of the present and future and
inhabitants of the country:
(a) For the assurance of the sound climate and physical condition of the country
and safeguarding soil fertility; supplies of the water for domestic and
industrial use, irrigation and genaral agricultural purpose, and the prevention
of damage by flooding and erosion to the river and agriculture land;
(b) For the supply in perpetuity and at moderate prices of all forms of forest
produce that can be economically produced within the country and that are
required by the people for agricultural, domestic and industrial purpose under
a fully developed national economy.
2. Manage the productive forests of the Permanent Forest Estate with the objective
of obtaining the higest possible revenue compatible with the principle of
sustainable yield and with the primary objective as set out above.
3. Promote, as far as may be praticable, through and economical utilization of forest
products on land not included in Permanent Forest Estate, prior to the alienation
of such land.
4. Foster, as far as may be compatible with prior claims of local demandm profitable
export trades in forest produce.
