The Wild Orchid Garden
The Wild Orchid Garden comprising 2 nurseries and a garden, was set up in 1991. It was named Rena George Wild Orchid Memorial Garden in 1995 in memory of the late Ms Rena George who was the office-in-charge of the Botanical Research Centre from December 1977 to April 1994. Presently, 207 orchid species have been planted on the 2-hectare site, many of which are rare, endemic or protected e.g. slipper orchids (Paphiopedilium spp.), moth orchids (Phalaenopsis spp.), spider orchids (Arachis spp.), Jewel orchids (Haemaria and Dossinia spp.) and Mulu orchids. Both terrestrial and epiphytic species are represented; they display a variety of vegetative forms with flowers of astonishing colours and various shapes.
