Wild Fruit Trees

Wild fruits are those that are not cultivated but grow in open ground or in the forests. Some of these species are now found nearby human settlements in the rural areas.

Although there are many edible wild fruits in Sarawak, 40 species have been known to have commercial potential due to their good taste and flavour. These species include
Buah Kubal (Willughbeia sarawacensis), Langir (Pithecellobium ellipticum), Tampoi (Baccaurea spp.), Ucong (Baccauria angulata), Keranji (Dialium laurinum), Engkala (Litsea graciae), Terap (Artocarpus elasticus) and Bintawak (Artocarpus anisophyllus). Most of the wild fruits are seasonal.
