PLANTED FOREST
The establishment of planted forest is a long-term strategy towards providing alternative and steady sources of wood material for the wood-based industries in Sarawak. The planted forests will also help to relieve the harvesting pressure on the natural forests and at the same time increase the State’s forest cover. Cummulative planted areas from 1997 to 2013 are 317,447.10 hectares. Species planted are mainly fast growing exotic species and some indigenous species, namely Acacia spp, Paraserianthes falcataria (Batai), Eucalyptus spp, Neolamarckia cadamba (Kelampayan) and others.
