FOREST DEPARTMENT SARAWAK WELCOMES BHUTANESE DELEGATION TO STRENGTHEN BIODIVERSITY CONSERVATION AND ECOTOURISM COOPERATION

KUCHING, 26 June 2026 – YBhg. Datu Haji Hamden bin Haji Mohammad, Director of Forests Sarawak, today welcomed a high-level delegation from the Kingdom of Bhutan during a courtesy visit to the Forest Department Sarawak Headquarters.
The delegation, comprising officials from Bhutan's tourism and government agencies, included Ms. Pema Zangmo Sherpa, Mr. Neten Dorji, Mr. Samdrup Dargay, Ms. Kuenga Lhamo, Ms. Tshering Lhamo, Mr. Sangay Tobgay, Mr. Dorji Tshewang and Ms. Karma Yangden Sherpani.
The meeting, chaired by Datu Haji Hamden, served as a platform to exchange knowledge and best practices in biodiversity conservation, sustainable forest management and ecotourism development.
Discussions focused on integrating biodiversity conservation into tourism development, protected area management, community participation and sustainable ecotourism initiatives. Both parties also explored opportunities for future collaboration and technical exchanges between Sarawak and Bhutan.
Speaking during the meeting, Datu Haji Hamden said Sarawak remains committed to promoting sustainable development through effective forest conservation and responsible ecotourism. He expressed appreciation for the Bhutanese delegation's visit and reaffirmed the importance of international partnerships in advancing biodiversity conservation, fostering knowledge sharing and promoting sustainable tourism for the benefit of present and future generations.
