Lip-stick plant
Eighteen species have been recorded in Sarawak. The name lip-stick plant arises from the species A. lobbianus, which has shiny leaves with bright red flowers that emerge from dark red tabular calyx, in a fashion reminiscent of lipstick from a tube.
These are mostly epiphytic plants or climbers with stems measuring 3 metres long, with opposite leaves. The species in Sarawak have flowers ranging from yellow, orange, red to purple.
Habitat: Occasional in lowland mixed dipterocarp forest, peat swamp forest, limestone forest, sub-montane forest from sea level to 2,200m above sea level.
Distribution: Throughout Sarawak.
