Monitor Lizard (Varanus salvator)
Habitat: The water monitor is aptly named; it is largely restricted to habitats with water present but, with this provision, may occur in coastal mangrove forest, gallery forest and other tropical forest types, savanna and savanna woodland, swamp and marshland, agricultural land, and if not hunted, around urban centres.
Food : The Varanus salvator is found to be a highly opportunistic feeder, and to take a wide variety of prey, including small monkeys, snakes, lizards, birds, freshwater crabs and domestic chickens: carrion is also taken, as well as human food waste and human faeces.
