International Conference on Heart of Borneo (HoB) 2019

1. Introduction

Forest Department Sarawak (FDS) has participated in the International Conference on Heart of Borneo (HoB) 2019 organised by Sabah Forestry Department (SFD), with the theme “Transcending Boundaries in A New Conservation Era” held on 21 - 22 March 2019 at the Magellan Sutera, Sutera Harbour Resort, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. The conference was officiated by the Right Honorable Datuk Seri Panglima Hj. Mohd. Shafie bin Hj. Apdal, Chief Minister of Sabah and attended by international and local speakers and participants from HoB Member Countries, government sector, private sector, research institutions and non-governmental organisations and the communities.

Moving into the second decade of the HoB Initiative, the international conference aims to excel conservation agenda in Sabah and Heart of Borneo landscape by looking beyond its traditional boundaries of forests and various sectors that are involved. This includes realigning the roles of research in support of science-based conservation, consolidating conservation and management of the forests through statewide jurisdictional approach, empowering community participation, mainstreaming and instituting conservation in other sectors, and further coupling these sectors to strengthen conservation finance through payment for ecosystem services.
