Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) will conduct the Economic Census 2026 (BE2026). BE2026 is the sixth economic census, implemented every five years since 2000.
The census aims to collect comprehensive data covering all economic activities in the country, including the wholesale and retail trade sectors.
The implementation of BE2026 also covers business establishments as well as non-profit organisations. The data collected will serve as a vital reference to support more effective and sustainable national development planning.

The Forest Department Sarawak (FDS) strongly rejects the allegations and conclusions contained in the Bruno Manser Fund (BMF) report, Plundering the Baram Peace Park. The report presents a selective and misleading account that fails to reflect the full facts, legal framework, scientific considerations, community aspirations, and conservation efforts undertaken in Upper Baram.
The Sarawak State Government remains committed to balancing environmental protection, socio-economic development, and the well-being of local communities. Claims that Sarawak’s forests are being “plundered” disregard the extensive measures implemented to conserve forest resources and improve the livelihoods of local communities.
The Forest Department Sarawak and the Sarawak State Government have previously addressed the issues and allegations raised in the report. It is therefore regrettable that BMF and its associates have chosen to revive these matters in a manner that risks creating unnecessary public controversy rather than promoting constructive solutions.
The people of Upper Baram themselves are best placed to assess developments in their communities. Their views should not be represented solely through a small number of individuals or groups associated with external advocacy organisations. The Sarawak State Government continues to engage directly with local communities and remains committed to safeguarding their rights and interests in accordance with Sarawak laws and regulations.
The Sarawak State Government welcomes initiatives, programmes, and activities by all parties, including BMF and its associates, when they contribute positively to the welfare and development of local communities. Such efforts should complement, rather than undermine, ongoing government plans and community aspirations. Advocacy is most meaningful when it supports the broader interests of the people of Upper Baram and promotes constructive cooperation among all stakeholders.
