KUCHING, 21 August 2026 - The Results Dissemination and Official Handover of the EFT Project, “Quantifying Stand Structure Dynamics and Productivity in Natural and Planted Forest Stands Using Airborne Ranging Systems,” was officiated by YBhg. Datu Haji Hamden Bin Haji Mohammad, Director of Forests Sarawak, together with the project collaborator, Oy Arbonaut Ltd.
The event was also attended by both Deputy Directors of Forests, representatives from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development (MUDeNR), Heads of Divisions and officers of Forest Department Sarawak, together with the delegation from Oy Arbonaut Ltd.

Implemented at Sabal Forest Reserve, the project serves as a proof of concept to assess the application of airborne LiDAR for forest assessment. The approach combines airborne LiDAR technology with field measurements to provide spatial information on forest structure across a wider area.

The event also included a presentation by the Project Officer on the overall project implementation, achievements and significance to the Department, followed by a technical presentation by Oy Arbonaut Ltd. on the project findings and deliverables. Key outputs include plantation stand inventory and volume assessment, natural forest biomass and carbon estimation, forest fire susceptibility mapping, and forest degradation mapping.

The event also featured the signing of the project handover document, signifying the Forest Department Sarawak's official acceptance of the project outputs and deliverables.

The project placed strong emphasis on capacity building and knowledge transfer, strengthening the Department's practical experience and technical capability in applying airborne LiDAR technology for forest assessment and monitoring.

The event also provided an opportunity to discuss potential areas for future collaboration between the Forest Department Sarawak and Oy Arbonaut Ltd., building on the experience and knowledge gained through the project.
