Local names include Daun Rusa (Malay), Gander Rusa (Selakau), Pinyingoh (Bidayuh), Urok Tulang Bunang (Kayan), and Udu Tulang Sa'ai (Kenyah).

Uses and methods of preparation are:

  1. Backaches
    -Place a twig midway along the patient's back for about 1 hour while chanting some magic 'words' or pound leaves together with 'Garam perempuan', 'Garam lelaki' and ash of 'Asam paya'(Eleiodoxa conferta) leaves. Apply to back as poultice.
  2. Bone fractures, sprains and cuts
    -pound fresh leaves. Rub and spread on the affected part and bandage.
  3. To protect young padi seedlings from harm by evil spirits.
    -plant the herb under bamboo altars in the farm as soon as the padi grains begin to form.
  4. As an antidote for drunkenness and against food poisoning.
    -boil leaves to make a drink or eat the fresh leaves regularly.
